In this edition of 'Meet the Teacher' we speak with Ms Jaclyn Danaher, one of our College Psychologists.

Name: Jaclyn Danaher - Student Wellbeing Department - jaclyn.danaher@marymede.vic.edu.au

What is your role at the College?

Psychologist – supporting the social-emotional wellbeing of our students here at Marymede.

Tell us about an interesting project or topic that you are currently working on?

Amy Ross (College Psychologist) and I are currently working on developing a group program to help our senior Secondary school student’s manage anxiety and worries. We are hoping to start rolling out this program with small groups later in the year. Additionally, I was recently in New York presenting my doctoral research paper entitled “Alcohol Consumption and Psychological Distress: A Study in Australian Adolescents.” Over the past 5 years I have been undertaking a Doctor of Clinical Psychology at Deakin University. I am currently in the final stages of completing my thesis and am aiming to submit it in a few months time.

What do you love most about Marymede Catholic College?

Getting to work closely with many of our students to support them in achieving their goals and/or overcoming a difficult time in their life.

Fast Five:

Favourite Food: Pizza

Favourite Movie/TV Show: Remember the Titans

Hidden Talent or Something We May Not Know About You: I ran a half-marathon last year!

Favourite Sporting Team/Athlete: Melbourne Football Club

If You Could Pick Any 3 People as Dinner Guests, Who Would They Be and Why?: Roger Federer, Barrack   Obama and Kate Middleton because I admire their demeanor and how well these 3 international figures consistently hold themselves in the public eye. I am inspired by Roger Federer and Barrack Obama’s passion, commitment and hard work. I am curious about royal life, and hope Kate Middleton could give me a true insight into this.

Erica Paglianiti (Year 5) will soon get the opportunity to dance for Victoria having recently been selected to represent her state at the upcoming 23rd Annual Australasian Energetiks Scholarships, a dance competition which will be held from Friday 17th – 19th July, 2015.

It’s an outstanding achievement for Erica, who has been performing since the age of 3 and now dances every week at the ‘Dance Discovery’ School in Lalor.

Although she also performs in the styles of Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Acro and Hip-Hop, it is Tap dancing for which she will represent the state of Victoria. To earn selection at the upcoming Scholarships, Erica was required to take part in a number of performance based examinations which showcased her talent and ability on the dance floor with only a handful of students gaining selection from Dance Schools across the state.

Whilst she is proud of her achievements, Erica’s real enjoyment comes from being able to express herself whilst dancing, learning new moves and styles, and meeting new friends who share her interests in dance along the way.

Along with the dream of one day becoming a professional tap dancer, Erica hopes to continue representing her state and performing at Dance Discovery, whilst mastering the art of performing a front aerial flip on the dance floor. For now however, her sights are solely focused on the upcoming Australasian Energetiks Scholarships.

Marymede Catholic College congratulates Erica on her recent achievements and we wish her all the very best in her future dancing endeavours.

The Parents & Friends Committee at Marymede Catholic College have recently been advised of a safety recall put in place for one of the products sold at the recent Mother’s Day Stall Fundraiser.

The product that is being recalled is the ‘Scented Melts and Burner’ (please see image below). The reason for the recall is due to the unpredictability of the burner itself, and the potential for it to overheat or burn the surface where it has been placed.

Any student/family who purchased this gift is asked to please return it to the Primary School Office on Monday May 18 from 8.30am onwards. Upon returning of the item students will be able to select a new gift to take with them (either a Photo Frame or Bracelet).

Should you require further information regarding this safety recall please do not hesitate to contact The Parents & Friends Committee at paf@marymede.vic.edu.au
