Tonia Ciccone - Year 12, 2016
My drawing of a new-born baby links to my first communion for which we were asked to select one of the guiding graces of the Catholic Church. My mother was quick to provide an answer in her attempt to hurry my decision. “Your grace is ‘awe’!”, she exclaimed. “Why is that?” I recall asking her, to which she replied, “It is awe, my dear, because you are always asking, ‘Why is that?’” I am fascinated by the way a baby takes on the world’s beauty with playful wonder. As a young adult, it is much harder to drop the sense of self-centredness, but this can be achieved, when gazing up at the stars or when looking into the eyes of a new-born child.
